Citizenship ceremonies in Cambridgeshire

This page is for people becoming British citizens in Cambridgeshire, including Cambridge. The county council runs the ceremonies. The weekly public ceremony is free.

How you book

Your invitation from the Home Office lets you book online. A private ceremony is arranged through the contact page of the Cambridgeshire Ceremonies website.

How often they run

A public ceremony runs every week.

Where ceremonies take place

  • The Red Kite Room at New Shire Hall (public)
  • Cambridge Room 1, Cambridge (private)
  • The Brooke Room (private)

Private ceremonies and prices

Private ceremonies are possible. You find the fee on the fees page of the Cambridgeshire Ceremonies website.

A public ceremony has dignitaries, a photographer and refreshments. A private ceremony has none of these.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the oath or the affirmation of allegiance to the King, then the pledge to the United Kingdom. At the end you receive your certificate of British citizenship and a welcome pack. You become a British citizen at the ceremony, not before.
