Citizenship ceremonies in Luton

This page is for people becoming British citizens in Luton. The council books your group ceremony for you. Private ceremonies cost more at weekends.

How you book

Your three months start from the Home Office invitation. The Home Office informs the council, and the council sends you a date and time for a group ceremony it has booked. Get in touch only if you want another date or a private ceremony.

How often they run

Group ceremonies usually run on the last Wednesday of each month.

Where ceremonies take place

  • Luton Town Hall (group)
  • Luton Register Office (private)

What to bring

  • The approval letter or email you got from the Home Office
  • Photo ID, such as a passport, travel document or driving licence

Guests

Guests cannot come to the group ceremony. At the Register Office you can bring 1 guest, or pay for options with 2 guests or up to 12.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the oath or the affirmation of allegiance to the King, then the pledge to the United Kingdom. At the end you receive your certificate of British citizenship and a welcome pack. You become a British citizen at the ceremony, not before.
