Citizenship ceremonies in Portsmouth

This page is for people becoming British citizens in Portsmouth. You phone the ceremonies office after your Home Office letter. Private ceremonies cost £140 on weekdays.

How you book

With the Home Office letter in hand, ring the ceremonies office and agree a date. Keep your Home Office reference to hand, and your poll number if you have one. You then get a booking confirmation.

Private ceremonies and prices

Private ceremonies allow more guests, and they can often be arranged sooner.

Private ceremony, Monday to Friday£140
Private ceremony on a Saturday, if available£150

The group ceremony fee is part of your citizenship application fee. Councils change their prices, so check the council page before you book.

You can ask for a commemorative certificate.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the oath or the affirmation of allegiance to the King, then the pledge to the United Kingdom. At the end you receive your certificate of British citizenship and a welcome pack. You become a British citizen at the ceremony, not before.
