Can you change the date of your Life in the UK test?

Last updated 23 October 2026

Can you change the date of your Life in the UK test?

Yes. You can rearrange or cancel your test in your Life in the UK account, under "Confirmed tests". Do it at least 3 days (72 hours) before the test, or you lose the fee.

Inside those 3 days, cancelling or rearranging gets no refund.

Where do you change the date?

You rearrange or cancel in your Life in the UK account, under "Confirmed tests". Log in with the details you used when you booked. Your confirmed test is listed there.

What is the 3-day rule?

You must change or cancel at least 3 days (72 hours) before your test. Count the hours from your test time, not from the start of the day. A test at 10 in the morning on Friday needs a change before 10 in the morning on Tuesday.

If you cancel in time, you get a refund to your card. If you cancel or rearrange inside 3 days, you lose the fee, and a new test means paying again.

Do not wait and hope. The sooner you decide, the more choice of new slots you are likely to have.

What if you are ill or have a problem on the day?

There is no refund for illness, wrong ID, being late, missing documents or refusing the photo. This is hard if you are unwell, so leave yourself room before the 3-day line when you plan your date.

If the test centre cancels the test, ask for a refund within 3 months.

Can you change the centre?

You choose the centre when you book, from over 30 centres in the UK. The facts we have name only the date and the cancel step, so if you want a different centre, cancel in time and book again. Choose by travel time from your door, not by distance on a map, so you do not need to move.

How do you avoid needing to change it?

Three things can force a change: a date that is too early for your study, a name that does not match the ID, or a trip that is harder than planned. You can prevent each one:

  • Book a date that gives you enough weeks to study. Check that your practice scores are steady before the cancel-by date arrives.
  • Check that the name on your booking matches your ID exactly, letter for letter.
  • Test the trip. Think about travel time, not distance, and plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early.

Write your cancel-by date in your diary on the day you book. Then you have a clear moment to ask yourself if you are ready.

How do you know if you are ready to keep the date?

Take a full practice test of 24 questions with a timer. You need 18 correct to pass, so you want to be well above that. A free practice test is a good check.

If your scores are not there yet, move the date while you still can. A fee lost is worse than a few weeks of study. Read about cancelling and refunds and how far ahead to book to plan the new date.

If you use the extra weeks well, start with the short handbook chapter on values and principles.
